Sponsor a GEM Program
Thank you for considering to sponsor a GEM for the 2017 GEMS Camp Retreat. With this tax-deductible contribution, one deserving girl will have the opportunity to attend GEMS Retreat 2017.
What is involved in sponsoring a GEM?
Sponsoring a GEM requires a contribution of $150. Your generous contribution will cover tuition, hotel stay, all meals during the retreat, and all materials and supplies.
How does the GEMS Camp determine who will receive a scholarship?
Throughout the year, the GEMS Camp receives applications of GEMS who are interested in attending the GEMS Camp, but do not have the funds to afford the program. Our team gathers these applications and as scholarship funds roll in, we identify scholarship candidates. Typical scholarship recipients are academically strong (with an A or B grade point average), are involved in extracurricular activities, and are individuals of strong character. Scholarship applicants who possess all of the above qualities will get the most out of the GEMS Camp and will allow for your generous contribution to have the greatest impact.
What if I want to sponsor a specific student?
Due to the fact that The GEMS Camp is a 501C3 not-for-profit, our organization must follow a specific procedure when it comes to receiving sponsor in-put about potential GEMS participants.
- The sponsor can notify the GEMS Camp of a GEM he/she would like to nominate.
- Once nominated by a sponsor, the GEM must submit a Scholarship Packet to The GEMS Camp.
- The GEMS Camp will evaluate the Scholarship Packet and then notify the GEM if they are accepted.
- GEMs nominated for a scholarship by a sponsor are evaluated on the same objective criteria as scholarship applicants and general applicants to the GEMS Camp. If in the case a GEM nominated for a scholarship by a sponsor is determined to not meet such criteria, the sponsor’s contribution will be applied to another scholarship candidate that satisfies the GEMS Camp’s objective criteria.
Sponsoring a GEM is not a money-saving alternative to enrolling a student. Instead, The GEMS Camp’s Sponsorship Program is designed for individuals and organizations to make the program available to a GEM who would otherwise not be able to attend the camp. Sponsors cannot nominate relatives for the sponsorship program.
