A New Community AI Internship Program

APPLY BY JANUARY 20TH! AI Good for the Neighborhood is a NEW internship program hosted by The GEMS Camp in partnership with the American Association of University Women (AAUW). This internship is perfect for high school girls who are interested in learning how to use AI skills for community-based organizations. Hosted at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in South Dallas, the program offers training, hands-on, culturally responsive learning, and mentorship from tech professionals. This initiative is designed to introduce high school students in South Dallas to the power of generative artificial intelligence through cultural preservation, storytelling, and innovation. VIEW JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications:

  • Must be a girl in grades 9-12

  • Interest in AI, technology, community advocacy, storytelling, or project management

  • No prior experience required

  • Able to participate fully in the program (approximately 6-8 hours/week)

Important Dates:

  • January 2026: Hiring and Onboarding (January 20th start date)

  • February 2026: Project Initiation

  • March 2026: Project Execution

  • April 2026: Project Execution

  • May 2026: Project Completion

  • June 2026: Project Community Sharing

What’s Included:

  • Hands-on training in artificial intelligence and data science

  • Mentorship from BIPOC AI and STEM professionals

  • In-person learning at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center

  • A completed AI project portfolio for college and career readiness

  • Students receive choice of $1,000 stipend or documented community service hours

  • Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, PickAxe, and Gemini, etc
